AFRICASSO COLLECTION BY ANDILE

Inspired by both Pablo Picasso and his inspiration known to be African masks, artefacts or relics of traditional African ritual ceremony, Dyalvane’s visual forms naturally akin to those familiar  fluid curves. In reflection, the two meet here, in an emotive fusion of visual stories hosted by clay as his canvas. The works of both artists spirits and energies are brought into  a present jovial celebration. A splash of blue, ruby lips and dancing crimson tipped toes, big eyed hatted women and serenading jazz musicians, create inviting scenes of a warm and vibrant culture. This collection certainly reaches out with an invitation for you to join in.

SCARIFIED COLLECTION BY ANDILE

This collection is inspired by the ancient African tradition of body scarification.  Scarification is the practice of creating incisions, often patterned or singular with a scalpel-like instrument on the flesh at specific meridian points on the body or face. Aiding both ancestral and tribal recognition, protecting an individual against negative spiritual and physical manifestations. The Scarified Collection communicates a strong spiritual message and a steady, elegant confidence resonates from each piece placed within any space. Dyalvane, with practiced hand and skilled interpretation translates this tradition with unspeakable pride and honour as one who has himself, experienced this ritual as a Xhosa man.

VIEWS COLLECTION BY ANDILE

This collection is one that draws on Dyalvane’s observations of the Cape Town dock yards -a less popular view of the city skyline – and literal view from a studio he once occupied for five years. Inspired by the daily harbour activities in the industrial area of Woodstock, depicting the passing of trains,  synchronised cranes stacking containers, giving a sense of daily commutes. Showing both day and night views, he works in the palettes of blues into yellowed coral sunsets and the falling indigo veil of night. He uses a befitting array of small discarded industrial tools, found objects and sprigs to recreate port scenes. Reminiscent of his fathers welding vocation in this very locale, his work is ever personal and evident in this collection.

iiNDONGA COLLECTION BY ANDILE

The iiNdonga (Donga) Collection shares a place more than a material aesthetic. A landscape of memories playing along soil eroded, donga lined river beds between neighbouring villages of Dyalvane’s upbringing. Communally herding cattle of family homesteads in rural Eastern Cape, winning clay clawed from exposed areas of earth, to make cattle figurines of his own wealth. iiNdonga are often created by cattle trodden hillside pathways, with rains eroding and collapsing them. Torn red terracotta spires contrasts emerald grass blades seen from a distance. In this collection, these collapsed pathways are led by one signature line for the eye to follow into crevasses that travel along earthy textures  of layered ripples. An expanse of one solid, electrifying colour opens our imaginations to the echos of his childhood playground.
